BRICKLAYING “RECORD.”

1121 BRICKS IN AN HOUR.

A Sheffield bricklayer laid 1121 bricks in an hour, thereby establishing what is described as a world’s record. Here is the story of this spotting event, as described in a Sheffield ■newspaper:—

“The performance commenced shortly after 5.30, and everything possible had been done to assist t-ne challenger of the world’s record. He had the help of six two on the ground mixing the mortar and shovelling it into buckets, one drawing it to the scaffolding above by means of a pulley, and three men on the scaffolding, one Lifting the buckets off the rope and depositing the mortar and the other two placing the bricks within easy reach of. him. One thousand old bricks were on the spot. Working feverishly he, ha.d laid his 1000 bricks within 53 minutes, and from then until the hour’s eind labourers were carrying the hod up the ladder with more bricks. It is doubtful who worked’ hardest during the performance, the. champion or his henchmen.”

This sort of stunt, a trade journal comments, is amusing, but it has, of course, no bearing whatever on the question of the output that ought to be expected from an ordinary bricklayer oh an ordinary job.
