MISPLACED SYMPATHY.
TWO WAYFARERS. CASE AT MORRINSVILLE. An example of misplaced sympathy occurred in Morrinsville recently (says the Morrinsville Star). Two young men arrived on foot in the town and, repairing to the residence of a minister, told a pitiful tale ofhunger, and tramping weary miles in search of employment. The minister was moved, and sent them to a boarding establishment, where he paid for dinner and tea for them.
Delighted by the hospitality of the town the pair, attracted by the friendly lights of another church, looked in on a Bible-class meeting and spun their yarn again, with variations. They evidently forgot to say that they had already dined at the expense of the minister, and said that ha had refused them a bed and told them to seek assistance, from the church they were now visiting. There were only seven young people in the class, including five girls, but they were moved by the sad story, and, passing round the hat, raised sufficient funds to pay for a night’s lodging. The two male members of the ciass escorted the pair to a boardinghous, which, it later transpired, Was the same- in which they had previously feasted at the expense of the minister. This was explained to the too Good Samaritans later by the proprietor of the boardinghouse, who added that the. “starving” wayfarers •had plenty of money to buy cigarettes.
