ENJOYABLE SOCIAL.
ST. PAUL’S CHURCH EFFORT.
The social and euchre tournament organised by the St. Paul’s Ladies’ Guild and held at the Gaiety Theatre last night proved most enjoyableDespite the stormy weather conditions the function was well supported locally, and there were also people present from Hikutaia, Netherton, and other parts of the district.
With the splendid music contributed by the iHaur.akis Orchestra, the floor in good condition, and an attentive and enthusiastic M.C. in Mr E. Edwards, it was small wonder that the dancers thoroughly enjoyed themselves and encores were frequent. A euchre tournament was held on the stage, and it attracted spirited competition. Messrs W. J. Towers and L. C. Cane had charge of this department, and had a busy time. During the supper adjournment Mr Towers announced that Mrs Lipsham, senr., had won the first prize and Mrs Harrop the second in the ladies section, and in that for men Mr Walter Lipsham carried off the first honours and Mr F. T. V. Johnson second. One of the features of the evening’s pleasure was the delicious supper provided by the Guild members and friends.
