GIRL GUIDES.
anniversary of paeroa troop. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARTY. In order to fittingly celebrate the first anniversary of service, the Paeroa Girl Guides troop and Brownies held an enjoy,a'ble birthday party at the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening. In addition to a full muster of Guides and Brownies a, large number of parents and friends attended. The whole function, which was, organised by the chief guider (Captain F. K. F. Emmott), was typical of the Girl Guide movement, and those who were privileged to attend were treated to something novel and distinctly entertaining. The threefold promises were taken by the Brownies, after which the ceremony of enrolling Guides was proceeded with. This being dope, a series of games and tableaux were indulged in until suppertime. Something special in the way of suppers was provided and dispensed by the pommitttee. During the interval the president, Mrs W. Marshall, was called upon to cut the birthday cake. In doing so she congratulated the troop on reaching its first anniversary and wished it continued success %nd joy in the future. The Brownies also had a beautiful birthday cake, which was cut by Mrs Emmott, mother of Captain Emmott. These ceremonies, which created deep interest, being completed, cheers and expressions of gratitude to the good folk who had provided the good things were warmly tendered. Tire happy evening passed all too quickly in fun and merriment, and it was not until about 10 p.m. that a huge ring was formed and the gathering concluded with “Auld Lang Syne”, and the National Anthem.
