SEARCH FOR AN HEIR.
£30,000 AWAITING AN OWNER.
INQUIRIES IN NEW ZEALAND.
Who in New Zealand can establish a claim to the name of Mary Bridget Madden? The next best thing is to be one of her near relatives, and the reason is that £30,000 is languishing in Wall Street, New York, awaiting air owner.
In a letter, quaintly addressed “TheLord Mayor of Canterbury,” comes a quest from a prominent legal firm of Wall Street, New York. Mr John JDwyer, attorney-at-law, has been vainly searching throughout the world for many years for this Mary Bridget Madden, who was born in County' Galway, Ireland, in . 1820, or thereabouts.
“ The daughter of William Madden, she came to New Zealand about 1887 and settled, so 'far as is knoy-n, in Canterbury; She is said to have a. number of relatives, probably cousins, ifi some part of New Zealand. We would like to get into communication with any member of this family,’ says the letter, “or with any who knew Mary Bridget Madden. In this way we hope to trace the heirs to an estate worth more than £30,000.” The above has raised high hopes in the mind of at least one Auckland resident. Mrs Mary Heinitz, a widow, aged 65, with no family, of Newton. She states that her grandmother was born in County Galway, and is probably the Mary Madden sought by the New York legal firm, or at least a near relative.
