CAMP TRAINING.
QUESTION. OF WAGES.
Compulsory military camp training has recently beep the subject of discusion by the 1 Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, as regards the disabilities suffered by employers being compelled to pay wages, such as in the case of apprentices, but especially if undergoing additional camp training as a penalty for not having attemjpd evening or half-day parades, which ordinarily would come out of an employee’s time, and not out of an employer’s time. The New Zealand Employers’ Federation, who had been communicated with on the matter, stated they ha<U pursued efforts for relief during the past four years, and had been successful in securing payment by the Defence Department amounting to 4s per'day, but so far had been unsuccessful in obtaining the right for employers to deduct. The federation was making further representations to the Government on the matter.
