OBITUARY.

MR. CHARLES OLSON. There- passed away at the Thames Hospital on Saturday, after a brief illness, a well-known and popular figure at Paeroa in the person of Mr Ch.arle-s Olson. Born in Sweden about 68 years ago, deceased went to sea at an early age, and followed this calling for many years, eventually arriving at Auckland about forty years ago. The call of adventure was in the veins of the young sailor and be left his ship and worked round about Auckland for a couple of years. About thirty-eight years ago he egme to Paeroa, where he had resided almost continuously ever since. Dece"s r, d liad followed the occupation of a labourer, and was for some years employed by the local office of the Public Works Department until failing health caused him to relinquish hard work and he retired, on an old-age pension about three years ago. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, deceased made many friends. Although not taking an active part in public affairs, he was an ardent follower of bowls,’and was a foundation member of the Paeroa Bowling Club, some three years ago being elected a life honorary member of the club in recognition of long and faithful services. In 1908 the late Mr Olson was a member of the local team which won the South Auckland championship.

In the course of his sermon at the local Methodist Church last night the Rev. W. B. Pickering paid a tribute to the fine qualities and good citizenship of the deceased, whom, he said, had lived a life of integrity and faithfulness.

The interment is to take place at the Pukerimu Cemetery, Paeroa, this afternoon, following a short service at the Methodist Church, to w’here the body was brought this morning.
