FOOTBALL MISHAP.
PLAYER’S LEG BROKEN.
ACCIDENT AT KEREPEEHI
Thirteen minutes after the commencement of the Kerepeehi v. Turua B junior football match at Kerepeehi on Saturday a Kerepeehi player, D. Rhind, had his leg broken midway between the knee and the ankle. The mishap occurred in the open. Rhind and R. D. Macklow, of Turua, both made a kick at the ball at the same time and their legs crossed. Macklow was wearing a shin-pad and was not injured, but Rhind’s leg snapped with a report that was heard right across the field.
Dr. E. R. Lange, of Turua, was called, and the patient was eventually taken to the Thames Hospital in the ambulance.
During the period of his incapacitation Rhind will receive £1 a week under the insurance scheme recently inaugurated by the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union. Under this scheme senior players contribute Is 6d pe-T match an7l junior players Is, which entitles them to 30s and £1 a week respectively, in tlje event of an accident. The scheme has been in operation for four playing Saturdays and this is the first accident which will mean a call on the funds. Saturday was the first time any of the Kerepeehi juniors had contributed to the fund, and thereby became entitled to cover, and even then only seven of the team became insured. Other teams a„re fully’ alive to the benefits, and practically all the players contribute regularly.
