DENTAL HYGIENE.

TREATMENT of CHILDREN. ENGLISH DOCTOR’S VIEWS. The New Zealand State school dental system would seem to have tnticipated the action of other countries in dealing with the problem of the treatment and prevention of dental disease in children. In England, so conservative in matters of this sort, the following appears in a book recently issued by Dr. James Kerr, M.D., consulting medical officer, London County Council, who was largely responsible for the inception of the school medical service in England “Surface treatment of teeth given at regular intervals to the school childien is service beyond the powei of the dentists themselves to give, so much time has to be given to reparation work that it is not possible to cope with this subject of prevention alone. On this account Fones inaugurated his system of dental hygienists. That dentists alone are io wo. k 1,1 teeth, is a Vtop-an dream in public health organisation. Dental hvgienists can do all the surface work and mouth sanitation necessary in nine-tenths of the cases at a quarter of the cost. “Intelligent girls are taken into an institution or college and given a thorough training in the knowledge needed for prophylactic treatment of caries. A considerable number Oi such training places now exist with different standards. The Columbia University course is for nine months. The New Zealand course lasts for two years. It would seem reasonable to suppose that a twelve months’ course could be arranged which would : enable the workers ultimately to prevent 70 or 80 per cent, of the caries in schools. “The experience of these dental hvgienists slic’-vs H at thay car. c.etect dental canes and irregularities with probe and minor ch-jrt defects correctly, do simp.e dressings, scale and polish teeth, drill and excavate cavities, make fillings whore the pulp cavity is not reached, and extract temporary teeth. Dental hygienists could work under definite conditions on their own responsibility, and as the work develops more and more can bo trusted to them. They have come into American and New Zealand schools to stay. Wherever they have been tried, school dental hygienists have been thor i ! ,’",y appioved and appreciated. They are the only means which the writer can see as likely to be extensively employed in the next half-century.”

A HINT OF VALUE.

Those who get on in the world are those who never fail to take a valuable hint when it comes their way. Here is a hint which may prove of great value to you : —

Mr Peter L. Harold, Nethcrton, near Paeroa, writes: “ For a long time I suffered terribly with kidney trouble. I used to have violent pains in my back, which the doctor said was really a severe attack of lumbago. He treated me for a while and I got all right, but later on the pn:n returned ami I was very soon worse than ever. I saw the de nor again and he tested nn water and found that I had a stone in the kidney. He sent me to a hospital and said an operation was necessary. My wife din not like the idea of an operation and urged me to try mod-cities first. I came home from the hospital and started to take Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills. For lays I got no relief, and. the agony I endured was too terrible for anything. By the time I had taken three bottles of Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills, however, I began to pass a lot of grit, like brickdust, and my suftm lag eased somewhat in consequence. As I continued taking the medicine I gradually improved in health, and, after having used about fifteen bottles of the Pilis, 1 passed a stone about the size of a pea. From then on I got better very quickly, and now I feel splendid, and have only Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills to thank for my wonderful cure. This testimonial is entirely unsolicited, and I hope you will publish it so that other sufferers may know what a really good kidney remedy there is in Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills.” Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills are sold by all chemists and storekeepers. Foster-MeClellan Co., proprietors, 15 Hamiton Street, Sydney.

But, be sure you get DOAN’S.
