MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD.

ALLOCATION OF SUBSIDY.

CONFERENCE SUGGESTED

The opinion that the Highways Board, considering the ample funds it controlled, had not improved the main highways to the extent expected of it and that its policy was not progressive enough, was advanced in a communication by the Te Arolia Borough Council to the Morrinsville Borough Council (states the Waikato Times). The matter of a subsidy for the construction and improvement of nil]in highways through boroughs and town districts required consideration, as such local bodies usually constructed roads with more permanent surfaces and at a heavier expense than adjacent counties. The Te Aroha Borough Council proposed that a conference should be arranged at an early date among the local bodies within the No. 2 Main Highways District to discuss matters concerning the operations of the ■Main Highways Board. " The Morrinsville Borough Council approved of tho suggestion that a conference should be held at Te Aroha early in June.
