TURUA TOWN BOARD.

REGULAR MEETING. The June meeting of the Turua Town Board was held last evening, those present being: Messrs J. Mules (chairman), J. McConnell, S. G. Williams, J. H. Johnston, J. Schmidt, J. T. Davies, and J. E. Green (clerk). FINANCIAL POSITION.

The chairman reported having interviewed the chairman of the County Council in regard to a statement of the financial position between the board and the council, and other matters. Mr Walton had promised to send the statement, and had forwarded a copy of that part of the county balance-sheet dealing with the Turua town district.

The statement of the General Account for the year ended March 31. 1927, showed general rates collected totalling £193 Is 4d. The debit balance at the beginning of the year was £2ll 4s Bd. Work done by the county for the board during the year totalled £3 12s sd, and the sum of £9O 9s 2d was transferred to the Road Loan Account. The payments thus cost £305 6s 3d, leaving a debit balance at March’ 31, 1927, of £ll2 4s lid, against which there were outstanding rates totalling £4B 3s 3d. The statement of the District Road Loan Account for the period from October 1, 1926, to March 31, 1927, showed receipts as follows: Balance as per a previous statement £1260 10s 9d, refunds from Interest Account £5O 7s, Dairy Co. for asphalting £9 18s, refund McCallum Bros, on labour' £5 18s, and transfer from the board’s General Account £9O 9s 2d.

The payments were : Sinking Fund £77 10s, Hauraki Road £252 l-4s 6d, Awa Street £2Ol Os 3d, Raratuna Street £525 9s 4’d, Oparia Street £278 2s, Piako Road £9 3s 2d, and charges for use of plant and machinery £73 3s 7d.

Against the over expenditure of £9O 9s 2d charged to the General Account there was as an asset a quantity of metal bought for £5O. Members commented that the position was very satisfactory, and that it was gratifying to get a statement so promptly. On the motion of Mr Williams it was decided to thank the county chairman for the attention given the matter.
