Letters were received from the Waikato Winter Show Association and the Railway Department with reference to a,, school children’s excursion to Hamilton on Thursday, June 2. The headmaster reported that about 200 pupils would make the trip provided a -holiday was granted. Mr J. W. Silcock said that if the Education Board granted a special holiday it would be; all right, but he did not think the committee would be justified in granting one of three days allotted for the purpose. The committee had already granted special holidays for tne annual picnic aind the Ohinemuri races, and the- remaining day should be kept for the local A. and P. show. He was not against the excursion being made to the winter show because lie realised thi)t there was a certain amount of educational value to be obtained, but he- was certainly up against so many holidays being given. On the motion of Mr McDnoald it was resolved to make the excursion provided the board granted a special holiday. Mr Silcock was tile only dissentient. REMOVAL OF TEACHER. A letter was received from the board notifying that owing to the decrease in the average- attendance: in the primary department during the first quarter it had been decided to remove Mr J. P. Callaghan, assistant teacher. Mr Taylor explained that at the end of last year the school was. put up a grade higher, which entitled it to an extra assistant, in place of thesupernumerary tc-acher which was previously allowed. If Mr Callaghan was now removed the school would be actually short of one teacher. It was a grea.t pity to remove a teacher in the middle of the- year, and it was detrimental tp the pupils concerned. On the motion of Mr Silcock it was resolved to write to the board protesting against the decision and asking that the services of Mr Callaghan be- retained. DENTAL CLINIC. The chairman reported at length on the progress to date made in connection with the erection of the dental clinic. It was resolved that working bees be held on Saturdaj' afternooons and on Juno 3, the" purchase of the balance of material required to be left in the hands of Mr Chamberlain. It was also decided to bold a dance and euchre tournament at an early date as a means of raising funds for the completion of the building. It was pointed out that now the clinic was actually in course of construction further money would have to be found, and the committee was justified in appealing to the public for assistance-. The matter was referred to the visiting committee. PRESENTATION OF SHIELD. Tlie headmaster produced a hand-some-shield, which had been presented by Mr C. W. Malcolm for annual competition among the primary schools’ cricket teams, the shield to be known as the Malcolm Shield.
