DISTRICT NEWS.
WAITAKARURU. JUMBLE SALE. In aid of the funds of the Waitakaruru Methodist Church, a very successful jumble sale was held in the Public. Hall last Thursday. From the early afternoon, when the sale was opened’by. Mr C. W. Harris, until late at night, when the unsold vegetables were auctioned there was a, good attendance and much business was done, over £26 being cleared.
The jumble stall was in the charge of Mesdames Thompson, Burdas, and Pinchess, the other stalls, with their attendants, being : Cake and produce, Mrs Hunter and Miss J. Williams; sweets Mrs Beaver and Misses Burdas and Thompson ' refreshments, Mrs Elliott, Mrs Hedges, and Miss Williams. Mrs and Miss Harris were in charge of the fish-ponds, and numerous competitions were in charge of men. The following were among the competition results: Dart-throwing, Mr C. W. Schultz; nail-driving, Mr C. Stretton ; ladies’ wood-sawing, Mrs Hayward and Mrs Whittaker; shooting, Mr C. W. Schultz; bull-bnanl, Messrs F. Barlow and G. L. Griffiths : string in bottle (25yds 6W), Rev. Hall 25ta yds; weight of cake ( |O1I) 2oz). Miss L. Aberhart, 101 b l%oz. In the baking competitions the prizewinners were as follows: Bread, Mis Mrs Burduss 1. Mrs Pinchess 2: currant cake, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Pinchess 2; sponge cake. Mrs Bennett 1 ; scones, Mrs Burduss 1, Mrs Perry 2.
