A notice appearing in this week’s Gazette amends the paragraph of tiie New Zealand Military Forces regulations with regard to mounts. Years ago the majority of members of the mounted rifles regiments provided their own horses, and provision was made by which compensat'd! was payable to the owner if the mount suffered injury or was killed in the course of military training. The position has now largely changed, and many members of mounted rifles units are obliged to borrow their steeds. It has therefore become necessary to provide for payment of compensation to an owner, who may not be a member of the forces, should his animal suffer through accident in the course of military instruction. The amount of, compensation remains the same,, not exceeding £25 for the loss of an animal, and not exceeding £lO, nicluding veterinary expenses, if the horse is injured.
