Peifect weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, and there was a large attendance of the public at the local domain to witness the three grades of Rugby matches.

The principal attraction was the senior game between Turua and East, which proved to be the most interesting senior game seen locally this season. The visitors were the heavier team, and were much superior to the local players, especially in the forwards. East toook the field with 12 men only, but the vacancies were filled during the first half. The Turua team' played a fast, close game, and the combination and superiority of the forwards saved many difficult situations during the match. The defensive play of the home backs -was solid, but the weight of the visitors was difficult to withstand, and Turua won by a margin of nine points. Following were the teams :— Tur.ua.—French, J. Rangi, Hooper, R. Madgwick, M. Madgwick, Blacklaws, H. Elvin, G. Elvin'. t E. Booth, H. Hill,’ ,G McCowatt, R. Hutchinson, N. Spencer, A. Phillips, P. Herbert. East. —N. Lati, mer, A. East 3, Turua 0. G. Elvin carried up from the kick-out, but McCowatt failed to take the pass and Pullar cleared. Hooper took the ball well, but McCowatt infringed and Johnson cleared. In tight play Hounslow was penalised and H. Elvin placed a penalty kick. East 3, Turua 3.

R. Smith gained possession at the commencement of the second quarter, and sent out to Pullar, who lost the ball on reaching the line. From the resultant scrum Hutchinson attempted to clear, but Catlin intercepted and sent on to Moore, who failed to hold the ball and Hooper cleared to neutral territory. Johnson returned, but offside play spoiled a good opening. In a loose rush East advanced, French stopping the movement only to be penalised. Moore failed with the kick. Tn a forward rush the ball shot out to Wright, who made a good run .before transferring to Catlin for a try. Moore again failed to convert. East 6, Turua 3. The visiting forwards advanced, and Blacklaws received from H. Elvin and passed to Rangi, who scored near the corner. Elvin’s kick failed. East 6, Tu(’ua 6.

On resuming after half-time Pullar headed a rush', but Madgwick picked up and made a run down the field, only to be intercepted by Wright, a force resulting. The home team applied pressure from the kick-out, and in tight play Treanor was just beaten for the ball by Madgwick who forced. The visitors started a forward rush and McCowatt made a good run before sending out to H. Elvin,, who dived for the line but lost the ball. Booth was handy, and he scored a good try. H. Elvin failed with the kick. Turua 9, East 6. Turua returned to the attack, and M. Madgwick delivered to Blacklaws for him to score. Elvin converted. Turua 14, East 6. In tight play Smith gained possession and sent out to Johnson, who crossed the line but was brought back for a breach. French’s clearing kick was returned by Pullar, and after tight play in which Richmond and Smith were prominent a force resulted.

East opened the final quarter with an attack, and Moore had an unsuccessful drop-kick. Offside play gave Bootli an opportunity to clear. In open play Catlin started a rush with the ball at toe and, beating all opposition, he picked up and scored a splendid try, and also added the extra points. Turua 14, East 11. In close play in front of Turua’s posts Blacklaws kicked out for Hutchinson' to carry on before passing to M. Madgwick, who put in a nippy run and scored a good try. Elvin failed to convert. Turua 17, East 11. Keeping up the pressure, the visitors, headed by M. Madgwick and Booth, reached the line for the latter to score. Rangi failed with the kick. Turua 20, East 11. T. C.
