The annual meeting of the Northern Steam Ship Co., Ltd. will be held to-morrow. The report by the directors states that the net.profit for the year ended March 31 was £13,103 0s 5d ; transfer fees were £l2 17s 6d ; end the balance brought forward from the previous account, £8784 10s 4'd, making a total of £21,900 8s 3d. An interim dividend at 8 per cent, was paid on November 15, absorbing £6456 9s 8d ; and the directors recommend payment of a dividend of 8 per cent, per annum for the- half-year ended March 31, which will require£64s6 9s Bd, leaving a balance to be carried forward of £8987 8s lid.
The Kerepeehi Rugby Football Club held a very successful dance on Thursday evening last, there being a good attendance of dancers from all parts of the Plains. Good music was provided by the Ngatea orchestra, with Miss Birkenhead at the piano. A progressive euchre tournament was also held, the prize-winners being Mrs Hira, Mr W. Williams, Mrs Fisher, and Mr J. Blyth.
The experiment in the manuring of, pastures conducted by an Auckland firm on a Turua farm last spring has so far failed’to produce any noticeable result. Eight different fertilisers were used, and half of the plots were fenced in, but since the top-dressing was done no improvement in the growth has been noticed.
