There is no question that Ne.w Plymouth has a big future.. Its growth during the last ten years has been little short of amazing, excelling on a per capita basis that of any other centre, even of Auckland City. In 1916 the population was 9795 ; at the next census, in 1921, it had expanded to 12,645, while in 1926 it was no less than 15,938. To-day it is estimated at 17,000, and it continues to grow steadily. The shipping, too, says the Taranaki. Herald, has increased from 220,393 tons in 1921 to 409,208 tons in 1926, and the Customs revenue for the same period jumped from £73,347 to £120,887.
