The danger to users of the roads about Turua of running into a drain at one of the narrow bridges has now been greatly reduced by the action of the Turua Town Board in having substantial handrails erected. With their tails hopelessly knotted together a bunch of nine rats fell from the rafters to the floor of one of the l sheds on the Dunedin waterfront the other day, and a delivery clerk killed eight of them with a stick. It was found that the rats had a sticky substance like treacle on their tails, and when the latter were enmeshed it prevented them from being freed. Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
