THE HAURAKI BRIDGE.

PROGRESS OF CONSTRUCTION. The progress of construction of the Hauraki Bridge over the Waihou River at Kopu has been steadily maintained, though of late the rate has not appeared to be as great as during last year. On Wednesday afternoon a start was made with the concreting of the decking of the first span. The steel girders have been laid over the nine spans to the opening span, and the concreting will be continued in conjunction with other concreting work. The pile-driving plant was shifted over to the Orongo side last week, and the piles for the abutment pier are now being driven. This transfer was rendered necessary by the fact that the space excavated some time ago by the dredge was liable to silt up again, thus preventing the punts from getting in close to the bank. The piles for eleven other piers are yet to be driven.
