VALEDICTORY.
PRESENTATIONS TO -MR 1\ CARTHY OLD RESIDENT HONOURED. Prior to -leaving Paeroa to take, up 'his residence in Hamilton, Mr P. H. Catruy was the guest at two presentation functions. A party of his most intimate friends met at the Royal Mail Hotel and presented Mr Carthy with a tobacco pouch as a slight token of the high esteem in which he was held. In conveying to their guest hearty good wishes the. hope was expressed that he would enjoy good health, a long life, and happiness. After giving nearly ten years’ faitk : ful service as a member of the locik borough staff Mr Carthy was farewdled by his co-workers assembled at triecouncil depot. In asking Mr Carthy to accept a case of pipes and a supply of tobacco the borough foreman (Mr W. Neil) referred to the good service and conscientious work done by their guest, and while congratulating him on retiring, general regret was expressed that he was leaving Paeroa, but the speaker assured Mr Carthy of a hearty welcome whenever he returned to the town. On behalf of the staff Mr Neil wished Mr much happiness and good health. In. reply Mr Carthy thanked his friends for their tokens of esteem, and said that he much appreciated the kind sentiments expressed. He was genuinely sorry to be leaving so many good friends at Paeroa, but after nearly forty years’ residence in the borough he felt like a change, and was therefore returning to- his old home town, Hamilton.
