MEDICINE FUND.
FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ ACTION. (OFFICERS ELECTED. Medicine, benefits, recognised by friendly society ’members of Paeroa and district as a necessary addition to the advantage: at present offered by such societies, led to an enthusiastic and well-attended' meeting of friendly society members in the Returned Soldiers’ Club on Wednesday evening. Besides strong representation of male, members of the Star of Paeroa Druids Lodge and the Manchester Unity Oddfellows Lodges of Paeroa and Netherton, the meeting was characterised by a gopd representation of Siste.rs of the friendly society movement. Bro. J. T. Brown presided over the meeting, and in his opening remarks briefly explained the fund and its advantages to all members of the lodges of the, district. The proposed rules received the consideration of the meeting and, following keen discussion and minor amendments, were adopted and confirmed as the rules of the Paeroa. District Friendly Societies’ Medicine Fund, and all members were urged to support the venture. Briefly, the fund provides in benefits fre.e medicine and dressings to a member, his wife, and children under 16 years ; the widow of a friendly society member: the mother of a friendly society member in the. case where the mother is maintained by the son. The financial side provides for a deposit of 10s a member, which sum is returnable under certain conditions. The total value of medicineand dressings procured by members becomes the liability of the fund, and will be equally divided bet,we,en all members. The fund reflects in the truest sense the. watchword of the friendly society movement —mutual aid. A pleasing aspect is the support and keen interest of the doctors and chemists of Paeroa. The. fund will commence operations on June 1, 1927.
The election of officers resulted as follows : President Bro. J. T. Brown ; trustees, Bros. S. Stembridge, E'. V. Slyfieldj and T. M. Wilkinson ; auditors, Bros. W. Turner and C. E. J. Gwilliam ; secretary and treasurer. Bro. K; L. Slyfield. The management committee of the fund will consist of the president, trustees, and secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the. The keen interest in the venture by lodge members of Paeroa and Netherton augurs well for the success of this ambitious movement in the interests of friendly society members.
