FOOTBALL.
PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held this week, Mr J. M. Crosby presiding over Messrs E. P. Fathers, C. T. Mettam, T. Royal, H. M. Shand, C. H. Potter, AV. Morrison, and R- Hodson (secretary). ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. On the motion of Mr Crosby, seconded by Mr Royal. Mr Mettam was elected chairman of the committee for the season, that office to embrace the duties of treasurer. CHALLENGE MATCHES. It was resolved that the question of challenges for the Peace, Bircffi and Johnston cups, at present held by the Thames Rugby Union, be held over in the meantime. APPOINTMENT OF SELECTORS. It was unanimously • rsolved that Mr AV. H. Taylor, junr., be appointed senior selector for the season. The appointment of a junior selector was held over until the next meeting. COMPETITION DRAW. The draw for to-morrow for the formal opening of the- season resulted: ■ Seniors: East v. Netherton, at Netherton, 3 p.m.; AVest v. Suburbs, at Paeroa, 3 p.m. Juniors: East v. Suburbs, at Hikutaia, 3 p.m.; West v. Netherton, at Paeroa, 3 p.m.; Karangahake a bye. Third Grade: AVest v. High School, at Paeroa, 1.45 p.m. The draw for the remainder of the matches was left in the hands of the secretary and Mr Crosby to arrange for submission to the next meeting. NOTICE OF MOTION. The notice of motion, given by Mr Potter that it be a recommendation to the Thames Valley Union that the disqualifications of C. McNeil and T. Johnson (Netherton Club) be lifted was formally moved, and seconded by Mr Fathers. After a long discussion the motion was put to the meeting and declared lost, the voting being: For, Messrs Potter, Morrispn, and Fathers; against, Messrs Crosby, Royal, Shand, and Hodson. GENERAL. It was resolved that the preparation of the playing fields be left in the. hands of Mr Arnold, junr., and that Mr Crosby and the secretary arrange for the dividing fences. It was decided that the weekly meetings of the committee be, held on Mondays at 7.45 p.m. . The secretary was deputed to interview the Hauraki Plains Gazette- with reference to the season’s publicity. It was resolved to pass the sum of £5 as a donation to the Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club’s travelling expenses. The secretary was granted £2 for petty expenses, and it was decided to supply complimentary tickets for thjj season to all active referees under the union. REGISTRATIONS. It was resolved that registrations received from the East, AVest, and Netherton clubs, in all grade,s, be approved subject to the qualifications being in order. FORMAL OPENING OF SEASON. ■ a — ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-MORROW. The formal opening of the Paerod •Rugby Union’s 1927 season takes place to-morrow afternoon. The principal attraction at the domain will be the senior match AVest versus Suburbs, to be played on the No. 1 ground at 3 p.m. As a curtainraiser to this match the AVest third grade team will play the High School, commencing at 1.15 p.m. The junior match will be West versus Netherton on the No. 2 ground at 3 p.m. Tlie, draw for to-morrow required the East seniors to travel to Netherton, but advice has been received that the Netherton club is unable- to put out a senior team to-morrow, and the match has, therefore, been cancelled. The East junior team plays Suburbs at Hi.kutaia. The following teams have been selected :— AVest seniors will be selected from the following: H. Smardon, H. Coldicutt, K. Dean, Mayo, Verran, R. Swann, Masters, AVells, E. Neil, Edwards, M. Poland, E. Fisher, K. Gre«nhalgh, H. Mills, AV. Lipsha’ni, H. McKee, S. Kerr. The West juniors will be. selected from the following: Overall, Wickliffe, Bailey, Currie, Conolly, Ri,ck, Insley, Snow; Taylor, Helling, Killgour, Pennell, Sinnett, Carrick, O’Brien, Marshall, Kara, Gage, Waho, Nahi, East Juniors: Williams , Walls, Barakat, Goonan, Moore, Vincent, Mead. McGuire, Morrow, Neil, Wil, Hams, Flatt, Jollies, L. Grant, Spinks. Emergencies : Tressider and Grant. AVest Third Grade: Tukekino, Leigh, Rackham, Wilson, Barakat, Grant N. AVilliams, Verran, Morland, AVilliams, Capill, Chisholm, B. Bramley, Alp, G. Brumley. Emergencies : Short, Hayes, Campbell, Curtis. The referee for the senior match will be Mr E. Moore-, and for the junior match Mr T. C. Arnold.
