GOLF.
OPENING OF PAEROA CLUB. ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON SPENT. Favourable weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon for the formal opening of the Paeroa Golf Club. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and also a number of visitors from Thames and Waihi. In a happy speech the president (Mr A. F. Steedman) extended a cor.dial welcome, to the visitors, and also to the new members, of whom there were a number present. In thanking the members for electing him president Mr Ste.edman said that he hoped the club would experience an enjoyable and prosperous season. Referring to the progress and development of Paeroa during the last twelve months, he expressed the hope that such progress, would extend to the dub’s activities, and that the r e would be a revival in the interest of the club. In mentioning that it was the club’s 21st formal opening Mr Steedman said that they were, honoured to have Mr and Mrs E. W, Porritt with them that afternoon, as they had been members of the club since its inception and had been deservedly elected life members. The president then called on Mrs Porritt to drive the first ball and declare, the 1927 season open, which was done amid applause. The afternoon was devoted to « * mixed foursomes competition, the best cards Io be returned at the. end of play being those of Miss L. Price (Thames), R. L. Miller, and Mesdames H. R. Bush (Thames) and C. D. Topliss. During the afternoon a delicious afternoon tea was' dispensed by the lady members. >
