KEREPEEHI SPORTS.
_ EASTER MONDAY GATHERING. VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENT. The recently reorganised Kerepeehi Sports Association held its first sports meeting ,at the Showground, Kerepeehi, on faster Monday, thus carrying pn the annual gathering for the tenth year. Splendid weather prevailed, and the attractive programme drew an attendance of about 2000, p the number almost reaching that of r the first meeting of the previous association in 1913. The showground at Kerepeehi is an ideal place for a sports meeting, and as the organisation and arrangements had been carried out in a very thorr ough and efficient manner, and keen compeititon prevailed in all the events in the varied and interesting programme, the day proved a very ‘interesting one. As one of the races had to be run id two heats, and also on account of the time taken in the preparation fo? all the chopping and some of the horse events, there was some delay in the advertised tipie of starting hte latter events, but the whole programme of 19 races was concluded by 4.30 p..m, The presence of the Turua Brass Band, which contributed a long musical programme, and the receiving of wireless, broadcasting from Ellerslie and music from IYA made the time pass quickly. Many people brought lunch and pienicked in the shade, of their cars, although the refreshment booth did a very big business and had to secure fresh stocks of many lines. Efforts to let the right to run the refreshment booth by tender having failed, it was run by the association and proved a very profitable undertaking. There were no [ unpleasant incidents, and although a protest was entered in connection with the running of the Kerepeehi Cup event the matter was settled in an amicable manner and to the satisfaction of everyone. The .wood-chopping events proved the most attractive, and close contests were witnessed. Seventeen ladies entered for the ladies’ underhand chop, but only eight of them could borrow axes. Mrs Bower., of Pipiroa, severed the 9in log in 32 1-5 seconds and won by a big.margin. The officers were as follows: — Patron, Mr. A. M. Samuel* M.P.; _ president, Mr J. M.
