Public Notices. BOROUGH ELECTIONS. Ladies and Gentlemen — I wish to take this opportunity of thanking the Burgesses for the confidence shown in the honour they have conferred by electing me unopposed for a third term to the office of Mayor. I wish to make public my General Policy and a proposed programme which is as follows : — GENERAL POLICY. (1) Acceptance of Municipal Honours with the object of rendering community service. (2) Never knowingly to betray the Public Interest. (3) Control and Development of the manifold interests of the Borough Corporation as a business concern. (4) The utmost progress consistent with due regard for economics. (5) Co-operation as far as possible with every effort made in the Public Interest. (6) Taper off Borrowing Policy. (7) More vigorous enforcement of By-laws. PROGRAMME. (a) Extension of sewers where circumstances warrant and finances permit. _ (b) Revaluation of Borough. (c) Preparation of a Town Planning Scheme. (d) Preparation of a scheme for the improvement and maintenance of the Main Highways in the Borough. (e) Commence planting trees in Municipal Reserves for commercial purposes. (f) Protection of Paeroa’s interests in relation to the River Works and Port Facilities. (g) Completion of Storm-water drainage improvement and maintenance of improvements already effected. (h) Completion of Street Improvement Loan Work as authorised. (i) Complete the acquisition of Rawhitiroa Block for an additional Recreation Reserve. (j) Classification of Streets for prescribing weight of traffic thereon. (k) By-law Amendments to meet needs as noted during past four years. (l) Continuation of negotiations for an increased Water Supply at the County Headworks. (m) Renew efforts to secure the erection of the Maternity Home in Paeroa as promised. (n) Purchase of a horse mower for cutting grass on streets. It will be my earnest endeavour to continue to do all that is humanly possible in the general interests of our Borough.
