DISTRICT NEWS.

TURUA. CHURCH BAZAAR. A bazaar was held in the Turua Public Hall on Thursday last for the purpose of raising funds for St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The function was opened afel.3o by Mrs S. Bagnall, and from then on till after the various stalls by the stall-hdlde r s, who were as follows: Produce, Mrs J. and Mrs C. Miller; needlework, Mrs Owens and Mrs Chartenis; sweets. Misses D and M. Miller ; cakes and flowers, Mesdames S. Murray and S. Williams ; afternoon tea and supper, Mesdames Dale and Davies; fish ponds, Mrs Pentecost and M'ss McConnell. During the evening there was a large attendance for the puiTose of dancing. Mr J. Neate was M.C., and the music was by the Kopuarahi orchestra. Numerous games and competitions were also organised. Among the prize-winners were the following : Doll, name Billy, Miss Langdon ; cake, 51b 12y 2 oz, Mrs Hastings (51b 12oz) ; cushion ; 141 marbles In bottle., Mr E. Mills (150) ; cushion; maize in bottle, Mr Elwin ; spoons ; 715 peas in bottle, Miss I. Dale, 666 ; lingerie set; 182 buttons In jar, Miss J. Madgwick won the draw after tying with Misses A. Bell and D. Miller ; cushion ; 564 beans in bottle, Mr W. Harrison (567); tea set; 'length of string, 12yds Sin, Miss J. Hastings (12yds B%in) ; night- . dress ; 289 nails in bottle. Miss D. Harwood (299) ; cake, 101b’13oz, Mi’s J. T. Davies won draw after tying with Miss A. Bell at 101 b lOoz ; qu»ittllrowing, Miss P. Gray won after tying with Miss R. Dale; men’s quoitthrowing, Mr H. Kerby. The following were the winners in the baking competitions: Bread, Mrs S. S. Murray; fruit cake, Mrs Robinson 1, Mrs S. S. Murray 2 ; Madeira cake, Mrs S. S. Murray 1 and 2; sponge cake, Mrs McConnell junr., and Miss R. Williams (tie) ; sponge roll. Mrs McConnell, junr., 1, Miss M. Gray 2 ; shortbread, Mrs J. Miller 1, Mrs Spence 2; scones, Mrs McConnell, junr., 1, Mrs Dale 2; decorated sponge, Mrs J. Flynn 1, Mrs J. T. Davies 2.
