THE SHOOTING SEASON.

PIAKO BIVEB PBOSPECI’S. GAME VERY PLENTIFUL. The prospects for the shooting season, which opens at the beginning of next month, seem very bright in the Piako River district. Frequenters of the upper reaches of the river report that it is many years since so much game was noticed about at this time •of the year. The reason given is that on account of the heavy and continuous rain during the past month all the lagoons are full of water and much low-lying land south of Ngaruais submerged, whereas in previous years the birds were forced to the Waikato River swamps on account of the dryness of the Piako basin. The bnight prospects for the coming season have already induced several parties to visit the Tahuna and Patetonga districts for the purpose of ■ making arrangements for the dawn of May 2.
