PLAINS CRICKET.

FINAL .HATCHES OF SEASON. KOPUARAHI WINS COMPETITION. The final matches of the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s interclub competition were set down for play on Saturday last, but only one game was played. On account of some of its players being included in the representative tennis teams the Turua club did not send a team to Kopuarahi, and as neither the Pipiroa club nor the Kaihere club could win the competition with the possible points to be secured last Saturday they did not play. Waitakaruru visited Ngatea, the game ending in a draw. Ngatea. batted for 80 minutes and declared with eight wickets down for 138. Waitaka--I’uru had 90 minutes to play, but by blocking consistently ten players kept the side at the wickets until time was called, and the game was declared a draw. Waitakaruru’s score for the 90 1 minutes was 35. The Ngatea club has lodged a protest against the playing of a Te Arolia man, who had applied for a game in the Ngatea team during the day. When this was refused he applied to the Waitakaruru club and was given a place, despite the protest of the Ngatea team. The visiting team was a man short, and the stranger was batting when time was called, otherwise the home team would have secured a two-point win and a possible chance for the cup. It now appears that Kopuarahi has won the competition. The games have been dragging on for months, and no one seems to know the exact total of the points secured.
