HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD. MARCH MEETING. The Hauraki Drainage Board met on Friday last, members present being Messi's, G. Gray (chairman), R. H. Heappey, J. Mules, and J. Hamilton. NEW BOARD ELECTION. It was moved by Mr Gray and seconded by Mr Mules that the Minister of Internal Affairs be written to protesting against the manner in which the election of the board for the new united drainage district was, to be held under the Counties Act qualification and disqualification, which would probably have the effect of inflicting hardships on many ratepayers uf the united district by disfranchisement by reason of the non-payment of county rates, although possibly they had paid drainage rates. —Carried. HENRY’S OUTLET. The chairman reported on a visit to Troughton’s and Henry’s outlet at the request of Mr Troughton and stated that it would <be necessary .to lower and enlarge the tw€\ culverts on Mr Henry’s, property and regrade the bottom of the whole of the drain from the floral-gate to the road before the read culvert pipes could be satisfactorily lowered, as previously arrangedThe outlet from the flood-gate to the river would have to be opened out, as the channel had practically closed, with the result that the gate was lying in. dead water. To give Mr Troughton a sufficient and satisfactory outlet it was imperative that the work should be carried out immediately. It was resolved that Bft by 3ft concrete pipes be ordered at once to replace the two culverts on Mr Henry’s property, and that it be left to the chairman, with full powe’ to act, to arrange for the mouth of the drain outside the flood-gate to be opened up at once and arrange a contract for regrading the whcJe of the drain, after which the road culvert should be immediately lowered as arranged. FENCING WIRE. It was moved by Mr Gray and seconded by Mr Mules that Mr W. McCowatt be written to at once demanding the return of the seven coils c.f barb wire given to him some twelve months ago to fence the lower end of No. 1 outlet, which he had not done, and failing his cpmpliance Constable Devereaux’s assistance be enlisted. — Carried. TENDERS. The actio,n of Mr Mules in letting a contract for the cleaning of the Turua roadside drain tie W. Johnson at 4s per chain was approved, as also was Mr Heappey’s action in letting JBennett the cleaning, etc., of 'Handley’s outlet at 7s a chain. FENCING OF DRAINS. It was edcided to call on Mr P. RHenry to fence portion of Henry’s and Troughton’s outlet immediately, in view of the improvement work and the damage already done. COMPENSATION. The compensation claim of T. Scott for damage done by the Willow drain was referred to the new board. CLEANING. It was decided that tenders be called for the balance of the annual cleaning work. These tenders were considered at a 1 special meeting held 'on Wednesday last, when sundry contracts were let.
