HORSES IN BOROUGH YARD.
LTo the Editor J Sir, —I should like to advise the public that the statements in your issue of the 16th inst., made by the Mayor, that borough horses were re: moved from the borough yard by 18 p.m. and that the Fire Brigade had not much cause for complaint, are unreliable. Men sacrifice their home comforts to sleep on a fire station in the sole interests Of the townspeople, who are given to understand that these men are untruthful' complainers. It was written to your columns previously, and I will maintain that a was on several occasions left . till well after midnight. Last night, 5 again, sleep at the fire station was a r thing of impossibility till the early hours of the morning through a horse creating a disturbance in the yard. It is not a fair proposition, and the public have no right to be misled by untrue statements on the matter. COMPLAINT.
[The statement referred, to in the above letter and published in ouy issue cf the 16th inst. reads as follows: “Reviewing the report, the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) said that instructions had been given to the foreman >- that the horses were to be placed in the Rawhitiroa reserve every night, with the exception of the two requir- ■ ed lor the sanitary service. On inquiries being made it was found that the horses were removed from the yard by 10 p.m. ; and he did not think the brigade had much cause for complaint.”—Ed.,]
