FIREWORKS DISPLAY.

UNIQUE ENTERTAINMENT.

Nature’s background of handsome trees and mighty rolling black clouds proved a striking and appropriate setting, completing a scene from a grotto of Fairyland transferred to Paeroa's domain Tor St. Patrick’s evening. The Paeroa Athletic Club’s fireworks display and carnival evening, the net proceeds from which are to be divided between the school dental clinic fund and the club, attracted upwards o>f 1000 people to the domain on Thursday evening. Fortunately the threatening bad weather earlier in the day failed to eventuate, and undoubtedly the unique evening delighted both kiddies and adults. The fireworks display, fired by the Wainoni Park Fireworks Co., Christchurch, charmed, and at times surprised, the crowd. Mojister rockets leaving tails of fire and exploding into coloured stars drew many “Ohs I" of admiration from the children. Giant roman candles, waterfalls of fire, Prince of Wales Feathers, and wheels of fiery glory, punctured with many bangs, bewildered and dazzled. A detailed account could fill a large space, but suffice it to say that the. company’s advertisement, “Calculated to send the populace pop-eyed with wonder,” was truly realised. The gate returns of £59 proved the irresistible appead of a sth of November evening in March. Threatening rain and a soaked green made the preparation of a dancing area impossible, but nevertheless several couples toed the “fantastic step” after the display. An eleventh-hour hitch with a local orchestra was filled by the Waihi Federal Band, which at short notice filled the bill to perfection. The programme of items received favourable comment from the large crowd.

The hoop-la stall helped in provid ing folk with amusement, and the re f.reshment booth received good pat i'onage.
