ERIC HOBSON BENEFIT.
LTo the Editor.} Sir, —Probably if your correspondent “Pro Bono Publico” of March, 18 issue had accepted his privilege as a. subscriber and made inquiries through proper channels he would have realised that his “little bit,” along with the assistance, of a large band of sympathisers, has been safeguarded by the 1 actions of the Benefit Committee. Careful consideration by the committee, with solid facts, before it, is vastly different to hasty judgments by an outsider. The tone of “Pro Bono Publico’s” letter shows a lack of common decency and disregard of the services of the willing band of workers in the recent effort. The keen support of the local public, aided by the folk of Karangahake, Hikutaia, and Thames, showed both interest in the cause and confidence in the committee. The fact that your correspondent assumes public opinion throughout his letter and had not sufficient confidence in his statements to sign his name speaks ’fqr itself. With little incon-, venience to himself an interview with members of the committee could have been arranged, and advice of a constructional nature would have been welcomed. Why did noit your correspondent claim his rights as a subscriber an,d voice his opinion in this way ? Finally, the decision of the committee was confirmed with the approval of Mr Eric Robson. Could any committee have done more ? KEN. L. SLYFIELD, Hon. Sec. Benefit Committee.
