MEETING OF BOARD. houtine business. The Hoi ahia Drainage Board helJ its final monthly meeting at Turua on Wednesday last, Mr F. A. Kneebone presiding aver Messrs W. E. Hale, J. C. MiHer J. M. Thompson, R. D. Davies, S. S.’ Murray, W. McDuff, and the clerk, Mr. W E. G. Willy. SUBSIDY ON LOAN. Mr E. L. Walton wrote in reply to the Board’s request that he inter,vie ,v the Minister of Lands in reference to a subsidy on the loan lor pumps, advising that the letter was not received by him in time. He therel'oie suggested .that the Minister be ‘approached when he visited the Plains. Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., also wrote on the same subject advising that he was taking the matter up with the Minister and would communicate with the Board when a reply was received. FENCING OF DRAINS. Win. Greenaway, Kerepeehi, wrote advising that it was not his intention at present to put his ’fence in order as requested by the Board. The drain bank was unsuitable, and tjie batter insufficient, and several slips had oc curved. When the drain was improved the writer, was prepared to discuss fencing. Mr Thompson said that it was. not intended at present to have the drain improved. The fence had been made close to the drain, .and cute had been put through the-bank to let the water out. Wherever these cuts had been made the drain had slipped for. a half chain or so. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote seeking information as to the cost of- the fencing as required by t,he Board to protect the Soldiers’ Drain. It was decided that the infoitmation he supplied and that the Board would have the work done and charged the Department. KOPUARAHI. REQUEST. T. M. O’Carroll, KQpuarahi, wrote asking the Board to sanction improvements to the drain running between D. J. and T. M. O’Carroll’s. Abbott’s, and Hudson’s boundaries. He would clean the outlet gratis if paid Is a yard for removing spoil in improvement woik. The clerk pointed out that it was the Board’s intention to abandon the drain. Mr Miller advocated improving the cutlet before abandoning control. Mr Hale explained the position and supported the request. Mr Kneebone urged that .the drain be continued through to the road, and made an efficient outlet. Most of the farms in the Board’s district had two outlets. Mr Murray moved that .the drain be improved up to the road and then abandoned. Seconded by Mr McDuff and carried. R. Flynn wrote asking that the Board provide an outlet for his farm to Taipara’s drain. Permission was given for Flynn to drain into this outlet provided he installed a satisfactory flap on the outlet. DUAL DRAIN WORK. The Hauraki Drainage Board forwarded details of the tenders received for the annual cleaning of dual controlled outlet drains. Subject to the Horahia Board’s approval the lowest tender had. been accepted in each case. The tenders were approved with the exception of that for Flowers’ outlet. The Hauraki Board forwarded an account totalling £145 9s 3d, being the half cost of last season’s cleaning of dual drains. • Payment of the account was authorised. RACECOURSE DRAIN. On the suggestion of Mr J. M. Thompson it was decided to call tenders for. the improvement of the racecourse drain through the high ridge to the road. The clerk was instructed to confer with Mr E. Taylor, Lands Drainage engineer, with reference to the Department’s attitude. TENDERS. The following tenders far the qnnual cleaning of drains were accepted Orchard East, Road north side, Phelps and Spence ; south side, Phelps and Spence, 3s ; Ngatea bridge to Parry’s, C. Dally, 2s 3d; Parry’s to Kerepeehi Corner, eastern side, xV. Vujnovich, 4s ; Soldiers’ drain, Phelps and Spence 3s ; Price’s to Kerepeehi, western side, H. B. Sparrow 2s 2d; Greenaway-Leader Drain, J. Kotara 4s ; Horahia Road, southern side, J. Dally 3s 9d ; Horahia road to Kneebone’s, C. Dally 3s ; Taipara’s Drain, Johnston Bros. 3s fid (portion only) ; Piako road, north side, Johnston Bros. Is 9d ; Zig-Zag drain, R. Fisher 2s. 8d; Orpngo boundary to Hale’s, A. Cranston 3s 6d ; Shelly Beach to Hendry’s, Cranston 3s 9d; Ngataipua road drains, J. Ducker 3s 6d. For the other drains contracts were not let for various reasons, though in many cases arrangements for cleaning are to be made by members or the foreman. All contracts must be completed by’ April 30, under a penalty of £1 a day. FINANCE. On the clerk commencing to give a statement, on the amount of rates collected- and outstanding, standing orders were suspended, and though a recommendation of the Board in committee was made it was not brought before the Board in open meeting for confirmation. A special meeting will be 'held at 8 p.m. on March 25th to finalise all accounts transact general business, and to confirm the minutes of the monthly meeting.
