THE ERIC ROBSON BENEFIT (?)

£To the Editor J Sir.—On reading the “Gazette” last issue I noticed a paragraph giving the final “wash-up” (which I presume means settling up) of the recent concert held in aid of Mr Eric Robson. 1 notice, also, that the committee decided to dole out pro rata Eric Robson’s share of the £55 contributed by the public on behalf of this unfortunate young man. I am one of many who contributed my little bit, and feel— as others must feel —disappointed in the extreme that Robson is not to receive the money in one sum. I think it. is altogether wrong, and an insult to the boy as well as to those who contributed. The helpers were under the impression that young Robson was to receive the lot, after expenses. of course. Why not hand t»he poor boy over the amount and have done with it? In this way it may be of some service to him, but in the way Of the committ.ee it is nothing less than an insult to the public. Fancy having to write to Paeroa for what is needed, and probably have to submit to terrible red tapism that is so conspicuous amongst some people. PRO BONO PUBLICO.
