RUGBY FOOTBALL.
meeting of turua. club. The Turua Rugby Football Club held it annual general meeting this week, there being an attendance of over fifty members and supporters. The annual report and balancesheet, as .follows, was read and adopted, and the secretary (Mr R. D. Macklow), was thanked F r the clear manner in which it had been set out. “Tile committee of the Turu.a Football Club arc pleased to report that the season just past was. a most successful e.ne 'for the club. "Tile senior team was successful in bringing back the Championship and Cup t- Turua, winning nine out of I lie ten club matches played after, losing the first game at Patetonga. The team scored 84 points and ‘had 36 scored against, it. An outside match was played .and won by the club against Hikutaia, while a benefit match .for Mr Cotter against a Ngate.a team strengthened by several players from other clubs was lost by a narrow margin.
“The junior team was very unfortunate, as after losing the first three matches —and thereby all chance of the Championship—the te.am did not lose a game, and later on in the season defeated the two leading teams, Ngatea and Kerepeehi, twice. “The financial position cf tihe club is satis, fatcory, the balance-sheet showing a credit balance of £3l 12s lid, as against £33 15s 4d last season. A sum, however, is still outstanding for photographs, so that the season just, past will show a small profit. With regard to the sum o‘f £3l 12s lid in hand, the club should decide what it intends to do with this sum. It would probably be a good idea to bank £25 or £3O in the post office, to form the nucleus of a training-shed fund. If the shed were built on the Domain it should be possible to obtain a Government subsidy on any moneys raised for such a purpose. The matter is worthy of consideration, at least.
“Medals presented by supporters tff the club were Avon as follows : Mr A. McConnell’s medal for most consistent senior player, was won by K. Fox; Mr F. N. Truelove’s, .for most improved senior player, by L. McCoid ; Mr Truelove’s, for most consistent junior player, by A, Charteris; Mr .Truelove’s, for most improved junior player, F. Olsen.
“The committee (which is now going out of office) takes this opportunity o’f wishing the club a successful season and of expressing the hope that both championships will come to Turua this year.”
The balancesheet showed that the credit balance brought forward from the 1925 season was £33 15s 4d ; players’ subscriptions totalled £lO ss, donations £2l, gate receipts £l6 Ils 6d, and other receipts brought the total to £lO3 15s lOd. The expenditure included a. £lO donation to the Domain Board, bus hire £7 10s, special ferry for injured player £2, photographs £8 19s. 6d, and catering, etc., bringing the total to £72 2s. lid, thereby leaving a credit balance o'f £3l 12s lid.
