NGATEA. HALL AFFAIRS. The Ngatea Public Hall dir&ctors met, on Saturday evening the chairman (Mr G. T. Davidson) presiding over Messrs W. J. Clare* G. Phillips, S. Phillips, and the secretary (Mr S. Tarver). • A complaint was 'received from the organisers of the recent Presbyterian bazaar concerning the length of time taken by the electric urn to boil. It was switched on at 7 a.m. and was not, boiling by 3 p.m„ when an empoyee of the Power Board came in to read the meter* and pu investigation found a disconnected wire. In view of the Inconvenience an allowance in the charges was requested. - Members commented that the matter was too trifling ,to worry about. A charge was n°t made for the use of the urn during the morning. The secretary was instructed to write declining the request. • The secretary reported that the Thames Valley Power Board had not yet examined the additions to the wiring in the hall, and in consequence the payment for the work was still held up. It was decided that the secretary should again communicate with the board. The financial statement for the month of February showed that the hall had been engaged on seven occasions. The receipts for the monta totalled £2l 16s. sd, and .the expenditure was £l4 10s 6d, including the proportion off the annual charges such as insurance and depreciation. The overdraft at the bank stood at £274 6s 3d, and there was cash in hand totaling £2O 10s* and accounts due totalling £2B 17s. The receipts for January were £23 14s sd, and the expenditure £l2 3s Id, while for December the receipts totalled £27 13s 8d and the expenditure £l5 4s sd. The secretary was instructed to write to the president of the Ngatea branch of the Farmers’ Union . with reference t/>,the non-payment of its account. The secretary reported that the corespondence relative to the payment of royalties on music performed in the hall had been referred to Mr E. L. Walton for his opinion. He had " advised that the fee be paid and a license obtained. The secretary was instructed to apply for a license' and to submit an average of the previous year’s bookings, so that the charge could be assessed. On the motion of the chairman it was decided that Mr E. L. Walton be appointed the society’s solicitor. To permit the hall committee to held its meetings in the hall it was decided that the day of the monthly meeting be the first Tuesday evening in the month, instead Vf the first Saturday. Mr Clare reported that 101 yards of soil had been deposited on .the section in front of the hall. About ten more yards of soil Wfere required to complete the job, though the contract had been completed. It was decided to have the balance of the filling undertaken. The- matter of carrying out further gravelling in front off the hall was introduced by Mr Clare, who said that the least amount necessary Was about twenty yards. Members commented that any expenditure should be deferred until the overdraft had been reduced. On the suggestion of Mr S. Phillips it was decided to sow the area with bro.wn-top grass. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mr W. J. Clare for the use oT his room.
