BEAUTY CONTEST ECHO.

DISPUTE OVER RING.

MISS ISOBEL WILSON SUED.

Mrs Ellen Vera Maxwell, of Wellington, proceeded against Isobel Wilson, eff Wellington, who was runner-up in the recent beauty contest, for tlie recovery o'f a three-pearl dress ring, valued at .£3O, let to defendant last October. An alternative claim was made for £3O. The case was called before Mr W. C. Riddell, S.M., at Wellington on Tuesday. Mr Perry, for defendant, asked for a fortnight’s adjournment. Mr Jackson opposed the application- “ Miss Wilson has been- selected in Wellington as a film star contestant, and she goes to Auckland to-night,” he said, “to take part in the final.” Mr Riddell: Where is the ring ? Mr Perry : It has been lost. Mr Jackson : It was lent to Miss Wilson by Mrs Maxwell 'for the beauty contest last October, on condition that it was returned. It has never been returned. Miss Wilson has made all sorts of excuses. She is here in Wellington now. She is about ,t° Proceed to Auckland, if she is successful there she goes to Australia, and if successful there proceeds to America. She does not deny having ihad the ring. Mr Perry said he had told Miss Wilson that the case would be adjourned for a fortnight, and it was quite impossible to get hold Of her. She would be back in Wellington in a fortnight.

Mr Jackson: The trouble is that she does not wish to appear in Court, and she has made all sorts of excuses. The point in disputens the value of the ring.

Mr Riddell: I propose to grant the adjournment, Mr Jackson. You can stop her if she tries to get away.
