The proverbial “luck of a China-, man” did not apply to a Chinese whs was motoring through the Plains recently. He was travelling in a light car at about 40 mies an hour, and when passing a gig near Waitakaruru his car skidded in some loose met,al, ahd after zig-zagging across the road several times landed upside down in the roadside drain. Various improvements to the Ngatea Public Hall were authorised at last Saturday’s meeting of the Hall Committee. Mr W. J. Clare was instructed t.o raise the building to a uniform level and pack the piles where necessary. A better system of dealing with the drainage from the roctf was authorised, and a committee. was given discretionary powers in connection with the further filling of the section. It was reported -hat the alterations to the electric light wiling and extensions in connection with ‘-he new dressing rooms were completed ready for the Power Board’s inspection.
