PAEROA HOSPITAL.
EARLY ERECTION DESIRED.
BOARD’S REPLY TO iOHINEMURI
The. thread-worn question of the erection of the PaerQa hospital was again brought under the notice of the Thames Hospital Board at its meeting on Monday, when the Ohinemuri County Council, as a contributory body of the board, wrote advising that it had recently had under consideration the matter of the delay °n the part of the board in carrying out the erection of the maternity home and emergency hospital at Paeroa. The council requested the board to carry cait the conditions under which it held a considerable sum of money and valuable lands in the Borough of Paeroa, and to proceed with the erection of the home without further unnecessary delay. Mr C. W. Kennedy asked what was the position. Was the board going to carry out its promises or not. Various reasons had been advanced by trie board Tor delaying the proposal. The matter had been delayed far too long, and the Paeroa people were entitled to know what, was doing. They had found the money and the land. Certain resolutions had been carried by the board, but it was high time something definite was done. The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) said that he had no information to give other than what the members already knew in connection with the matter. Once the hospital was erected at Puerto it would cost the board anything .from £lOOO to £2OOO a year. The financial question entered very largely into the matter. If Mr Kennedy desired something definPfe a similar reply would be forwarded to the County Council as had been forwarded.to the Paeroa Borough Council some months ago. He moved to that effect Mr Parfitt seconded. On the call oif the chairman for an amendment Mr Kennedy said that he supposed the resolution would do, but the board could rest, assured that it would not satisfy the Ohinemuri County Council. The Chairman: That may be; I cannot help that.
The resolution forwarded to the Paeroa Borough Council by the board at its meeting on October 13 last was as follows: “That in view of the financial stringency the building of the Paeroa. hospital be deferred until the suggested amalgamation of the Waihi and Thames hospital districts is disposed of.”
