SCHOOL BOYS HONOURED
WINNERS OF RELAY RACK SAMUEL CUP ’AND MEDALS. It will be remembered that at the Paeroa Athletic Club’s first annual meeting;, held at .the Domain, Paeroa, on December 11 last, a team o’f four boys fro mthe Paeroa District High School won the primary schools relay race, and witrf it the right to hold the silver cup donated by Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., for one year. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the local school committee Messrs J. H. Walmsley and K. L. Slyfield waited on the, committee and formally handed over the cup to the care of the headmaster (Mr G. H. Taylor).
Mr Walmsley, who apologised for the unavoidable absence of the club’s chairman (Mr T. M. Wilkinson), said the club had thought that the handing over of the cup was hardly sufficient recognition of the boysf individual efforts. The club had, therefore, decided to present four silver medals, suitably inscribed, and requested that one should he handed to each member of the team.
The chairman Of the School Committee (Mr C. H. Pascoe)’ was asked to arrange for the distribution of the medals to the boys concerned. Mr Pascoe expressed thanks on behalf of the committee to' the club. It was with pleasure and pride, he said, that the committee had heard of the success of the schoolboys. -The Paeroa school might be beaten for the cup on some future occasion, but the lads would have their medals, which would be worn with pride. The question of presenting to© medals was left in the 'hands* ot the headmaster-
