TURUA TOWN BOARD.
REGULAR MEETING. The Turua Town Board met on Wednesday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over the following: Messrs C. Scott, J. H. Johnson, S. G. Williams, J. McConnell, J. T. Davies, J. Schmidt, and the clerk (Mr J. E. Green). IOPARTA ROAD. On the motion o'f Mr Williams it was decided 'qhat tenders be called for the carting df metal for repairs to that part of Oparia Road which is used as an outlet by county ratepayers and for which the County Council is subsidising the board’s expenditure, up to £25.
The chairman reported that, together wi’Lih the clerk, he had interviewed the county engineer and had learned that a further 30 yards of blinding was required for the new metal on Oparia Road and Raratuna street The engineer had stated that the road was not completed, and it still required r°lling. As tlrq smallest quantity o'f red metal that could be procured was 60 yards, he had suggested that the board should utilise, the balance. Mr Williams expressed Opinion that the matter should be decided whe,n it was found what amount of blinding was available. MAINTENANCE OF BITUMEN. The chairman reported that on his instructions metal chips had beSn spread on parts of the bitumen road which were bleeding. His action was approved, and it_was agreed that other parts of the road be similarly 'treated necessary. Members expressed the opinion that metal chips were preferable to sand. PETROL PUMP. An application was received from Messrs Bagnall Bros, and Co., Ltd., tor permission to erect a petrol pump on the kerbside in ‘front of their store. Permission was grahtpd on the understanding 'tfhat the board accepts no responsibility (as it collects no f9e). RAILS ON BRIDGES. Mr Williams brought up the matter of having handrails erected on ihe bridges in the town district, as in the present state the bridges we<re dangerous strangers. Mr Schmidt advocated four posts rather than pos'tjs and rails, as children would probably play about on the rails. The matter was referred to the works committee, and was decided to ask the County Council to subsidise the work on the Willow drain.
