U.S. EXHIBITION.

LOSS OF MILLIONS. The Sesquisentennial Exposition at Philadelphia,, which was. designed as a dignified national j memorial commemorating 150 years Of United States independence, is closing its d«ors amid a chorus of press comment stigmatising it as "the most colossal exposition failure in history.”

Though it was opened on May 31, many of its buildings are still uncompleted. The Argentine building, on which the Government o’f the Sbuth American Republic spent niore than £6O,(fbo, suffered delay in completion, which lasted until a month ago. It was finally opened on November 1. Many valuable articles sent for display are still unharmed in their wrappings.

Philadelphia stands to lose between £3,000,000 and £4,000,000 on the exposition, .which has attracted only 6,000,000 visitors instead <'f 50,000000 as anticipated.

“The. truth is,” mournfully explains the chairman of the Finance Committee, “that people are tired of expositions.”
