HORAHIA DRAINAGE.

MEETING OF BOARD. The Horahia Drainage. Board met at Turua yesterday, Mr F. A. Kneebone presiding over Messrs W. E. Hale, J. C. Miller, J. M. Thompson, S. 8. Murray, and R. L. Davies. The clerk, Mr W. E. G. Willy, was in attendance. SUBSIDIES. The Minister of Lands wrote in re£jly to the board’s representations and advised that an item of £l5OO on account of £3OOO on a basis of subspdy £1 •for £3 appeared on last year’s appropriations. When works were, sufficiently advanced and application was made the money woould be made available. The clerk was instructed to interview the lands drainage engineer with a view to securing the subsidy. THE LOAN. The Bank of New Zealand advised that £6OOO of the £15,500 loan had been raised by the sale of debentures. Interest totalling £92 19s was due. The clerk reported that the cost of raising this loan was £124 18s. SHELLY BEACH OUTLET. The. N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co. wrote acknowledging receipt o'f notice to remove the pipes from its Shelly Beach factory to the Piako River and asking that the board reimburse the company for a substantial part of the cost. Mr Hale reported that the pipes had recently been shifted by the company’s staff. The cost would be much less than estimated by .the company. The matter was deferred. PENALTY ON RATES. The ten per cent, penalty on all outstanding rates will become due on March 25. JOHNSTONE’S DRAIN. On the motion of the«chairman it was decided to serve Rangi Hawera with notice that he was required within three days to put on sufficient men to complete his contract for the construction of' Johnstone’s drain. The chairman, clerk, and overseer were, deputed to arrange 'for the completion of the work failing compliance with the notice by the contractor. PIAKO STOP-BANKING. The clerk was instructed to interview the lands drainage engineer at Kerepeehi with a view to expediting the Piako River stop-banking at Kopuarahi. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £905 on the loan account and £236 Ils 5d on the. general account were passed for payment.
