500 GUINEAS PAID BY AUSTRALIAN

While in the Wairarapa district attending sales of stud sheep the visiting breeders have also made important purchases of stud sheep at, private treaty. At the close of the stud ram fair last week Mr W. R. Glasson, who hails from Molong, one of the Romney strongholds of New South Wales,, and who is president, of the Longwool Sheep Breeders’ Association of Australia, visited the noted Waiorongomai Stud iir the Lower Valley. This stud is one of the. oldest in the Dominion, and was founded and developed by the late Mr Alfred Matthews, who was also president for many years of the N.Z. Romney Marsh Breeders’ Association. Mr Glasson, who was acting for himself and Mr Macgill, another of the visiting Australian breeders, made a large purchase from Mr R. W- Matthews) of Waiorongomai stud ewes. The st,ud rams also came under his view, and Mr Glasson was so impressed with one of the four-tooth rams retained for stud purposes that he finally prevailed upon Mr Matthews to allow him to transfer this ram from New Zealand to Australia. The price paid set a new record for a ram of any breed bred in the Dominion, this being 800 guineas.
