At Thursday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council the salary of the, clerk was increased by £25 per annum, in accordance with the terms ■of his appointment.
Rates collected by the Hauraki Plains county treasurer during the month of December totalled £873 18s <l. The miscellaneous receipts for the month totalled £1566 16s 7d.
In his, quarterly report to the Paeroa Domain Board meeting held last night the superintendent (Mr W. Hamilton) stated, in connection with the growth of g<>rse on Primrose 1 Hill: ■“lf it could be possible to obtain the services of a man to cut the gorse beneath the surface Of the ground with an adze the weed could then be mowed with a scythe- which in a short time would kill it.”
The county inspector, Mr R. H. Cameron, reported to the Plains County Council on Thursday, that 3 goods’ cart licenses, 20 motor, drivers’ licenses, and 4 heavy traffic licenses had been issued during December. ■One steer had been impounded, and 600 dog collars sold. Dog tax collected during the year totalled £B7 2s 6d. Concluding his report the inspector commented tha£ he intended spending a day or two checking motor drivers’ licenses.
