LOCAL WEATHER.

FINE WEEK-END RECORDED.

WELCOME CHANGE IN CONDITIONS

For the. first time this summer two days of perfect weather were experienced over the, week-end. After tjio steady rain experienced locally all day on Friday the prospects for a fine week-end appeared very remote. So bad were the prevailing conditions that the special railway excursion from Waikato to t,he Waihi Beach was cancelled late on Friday afternoon. However, Saturday morning dawned fine, and the day was a truly summer one. Yesterday, ideal weather again prevailed. The lad portion °n the Waihi Bcacn road quickly dried, and yesterday motor traffic to that rendezvous was particularly heavy, cars getting through without difficulty. The swimming pools at Tarariki Creek, and also at the Komata, were liberally patronised during t.he weekend. In addition te a refreshing “dip” people were enabled to enjoy the added pleasure of a sunbath, which has hardly bee,n possibe so far this summer.

The recent weather has had a beneficial effect on stone 'fruit. Apricots and plums are now ripening readily, but neither variety is anything like as plentiful as last season. Owing to the wet and late spring experienced local strawberry growers report a complete failure of their crops this year. The last few days have been doubly welcome to many farmers, who, taking advantage of the. fine spell, have worked early and late in an endeavour to harvest their hay crops.

Although the sky has been overcast at times during to-day, the weather has the appearance o'f continuing fine for a while longer. /
