Damage estimated at over £so’ was done by a party p'f small boys at the Hauraki Plains County Council’s house at the old Wharepoa ferry on Monday last. The house was used by a cartage contractor, .but he and his family were away when the boys arrived. All the windows were' broken by stones, and two motor trucks were, extensively damaged. Effecting entrance to the house, the boys then broke all the furniture, crockery, etc., <. and ate a quantity of food and poured dirty water over the The matter is in the hands of the police, and the 'four boys will probably appear at the Juvenile, Court shortly. A pretty story, duly vouched for, comes from a town north of Greymouth where a trustful young girl posted a letter to Santa Claus. Being of apparent importance, the letter was referred to the postmaster, who decided to open it. The enclosure, a letter asking for a doll’s, pram and sunshade, was duly read, and the postmaster set about doing the “Santa Claus” act by inviting the staff to assist in providing the wherewithal to supply the order. The result was that later in the afternoon the postman delivered a doll’s pram and sunshade at the address of the young lady, with greetings from Father Christmas. The Limited had just pulled into Auckland 'from Wellington, and there was much bustle and hurrying of passengers. A lady alighted from a sleeping car and, going to the guard’s van, secured a box containing two cockerels. Putting it under her arm, and struggling with a suitcase, she was making her way up the platform, A well-dressed man approached her and asked, “Do you want a taxi, madam ?” “No, thank you ; my friends are. waiting for me,” she answered. "Then may I assist you by carrying that box ?” she was asked. The box was forthwith handed over, and neither the man nor the cockerels have been seen by the owner since.
