DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. SCHOOL CONCERT. Pupils o’f the primary and secondary departments of the Ngatea District High School presented .a concert in the public hall on Thursday evening last which won th© admiration of the very large audience. The entertainment v/fte organised to raise funds, for the maintenance ot the Plains .school dental clinic, for, as none o'f the other districts had provided their quota; the whole of the cost had been met by the Ngatea School Committee. It is estimated that the net proceeds of the concert will exceed £l5. Opening with a pianoforte duet by the Misses Davidson, there followed a -part song by a large company oE children and a; maypole dance. An item which deservedly evoked rounds o'f applause was presented by about twenty small children who, singly and in pairs, took the part of characters of well-known nursery rhymes. After an exhibition of step-dancing by K. Barriball, and another part song, a dialogue “The Mad Tea.-palrtywas presented by Masters E'. Waite, L. Gribble, D. Deciding; and Miss A. Douglas. Another part song was. followed by an exhibition of step-dancing by Miss Charteris and some o'f her, pupils. Little Miss; Joan McDuff, agM about 4 years, quite brought down tne house, and was accorded an encore — the only one permitted during the evening. Another pajnt song and an item by Mr C. Hobin concluded the first half of the programme. The whole of the second part of the, programme was occupied by the presentation- of the one-aqt' play “The Dehr Departed,” by some of th© pupils of the high school. Those taking part were Misses H. Dale, M. Harris], N. F. Elliott, and Masters K. Clare, J. Shaw*; and V. Keane. The entertainment p’ a iss©d off quickly, without the slightest hitch or mistake,, and was much appreciated. It was followed by a dance.
