THE SHOW.

FIRST DAY AT PAEROA. OPENED IN FINE WEATHER, Following on heavy rain, last night, this morning was bright and fine for the first day of the 28th annual show to be held at Paei*oa. As. is usual on first days the attendance to day is not. very large, public preferring to defer the pleasure until the second day, which is regarded as People’s Day. At an early hour this morning the Domain was astir, show exhibitors, owners of side-shows, and trade exhibitors being busy putting the finishing touches to their animals and stands.

Judging by the way the entries have come to hand the sholw promises to be equal to, if not better than, previous efforts, a ( nd the general public can be assured o’f a couples of days.’ interesting pleasure. This afternoon’s attractions include the maiden hunter competition, the 12 stone hunter, and other competitions. Judging in the 'cattle and horse sections commenced at 1 o’clock to-day, and the judges made no secret in stating that they are experiencing a, difficult time, in .making the awards owing to the high quality o’f the animals paraded before them.

The annual show smoke concert is to take place at the Soldiers’ Club, Wharf Street, this evening.

To-morrow, being People’s Day, Mr A. M. Samuel M.P. for Ohinemuri, will Officially open the show at 1.30 p.m. Judging will commence at 9 a.-m. sharp, and will continue until flnisned, about noon. The Grand Parade takes place at 1.45 p.m. Immediately following this the riding and driving competitions will 'take place, and a monster baby show is to be held at the croquet pavilion. Post entries f°r this competition will be received at the secretary’s tent up to 1.30 p.m., and later by the steward in charge at the pavilion. Good entries, have been received for, the school children’s decorated bicycle competition and the boy scouts’ competitions. The beautiful trees in the domain provide ideal picnic places, and K as ample hot water will be available, those desiring to make a happy picnic day to-morrow will, find ample facilities provided. The local business people are making a.n effort to co-operate with the country folk, and in order that their staffs may have an opporunity o'f taking an intelligent int rest in the show many places of business will be closed ’for a time to-morrow. Provided fine weather prevails to-morrow the association can look forward to holding a very successful show.
