HAURAKI DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. The first meeting of the new trustees of the Hauraki Drainage Board was he,ld at Turua on Friday, there being present Messrs G. Gray, J. Mules, R. H. Heappey, J. Hamilton, D. G. McMillan, and the clerk (Mr J. E. Green). CHAIRMANSHIP. Nominations for the position of chairman were called by the clerk, and on the motion of Mr D. G. McMillan, seconded by Mr J. Mules, the retiring chairman was unanimously reappointed. Mr G. Gray has held the office since August, 1919. NEW MEMBER. A welcome to Mr J. Hamilton, the new member representing the Central area, was extended by the chairman, who assured him that everything he brought forward would be given a fair hearing by the board. He hoped that the new member would work in harmony with the board. Mr Hamilton said that the board’s interests were his interests.; and it would be his endeavour .to work in harmony with the other members. APPRECIATION. In moving that the board place’ on record its appreciation of the valued services rendered by Mr R. Baker to the board, the drainage district, and particularly the Central area, the chairman suggested that a letter be sent from the old members to Mr Baker expressing appreciation of his services find regret at his departure. In seconding the motion Mr McMillan said that Mr Baker’s defeat was *just a matter of policy. Mr Baker had set an example for anyohe to follow. He was conscientious, and a reliable trustee who had, constantly endeavoured to do the right thing. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Baker was. the Central area representative from August, 1918. AMALGAMATION. . A copy of the Commissioner’s report on .the question of amalgamation of the Horahia and Hauraki boards, and also a communication ‘from blip Ith ternal Affairs Department stating the procedure to be adopted to bring about, the amalgamation, were received and .discussed in committee. The Horahia Drainage Board wrote asking that a conference be held a.£j soon as possible to discuss the matters raised in connection with amalgamation by the Internal Affairs Department. It was agreed to submit Tuesday, next as a suitable date. DALLY’S OUTLET.’ The matter of improving the outlet of Daily’s drain was left to the area member, Mr Hamilton, with power to act. - SIZE OF CULVERT. With reference to a request for bigger pipes in a drain in Mr P. RHenry’s farm Mr Heappey reported that on investigation he had found that th.Q drain had been taken oyer many'years ago, and that since then a settler had replaced a bridge with concrete pipes without the knowledge or permission .of the bo’ajrd. He, therefore, did not think it was the board’s duty to replace the pipes with bigger ones. '
Mt McMillan said .that the work authorised by the board at its previous meeting had not yet been' commenced.
The matter was left to Messrs McMillan and Heappy, with power to act.
